Use, Maintenance, and Precautions for HW11708STC Transmission
Requirements for use
Correct and reasonable operation and use of the transmission and regular maintenance are very important to ensure safe and reliable driving of the vehicle and extend the life of the transmission. Please follow the following usage requirements:
1. Lubricating oil brand
The transmission should be filled with 85W/90 (GL-4 grade) vehicle gear oil
2. Correct oil level
The oil level height should be checked through the oil level observation hole on the side of the shell. The oil level height should be flush with the lower edge of the oil level observation hole. The oil injection volume is about 6L (6.5L when a power take-off is installed).
Too much oil will cause the transmission temperature to rise and oil leakage; too little oil will cause poor lubrication of parts, and in severe cases, a box burn accident will occur.

3. Oil level check
The oil level should be checked regularly. When checking the oil level, the vehicle should be parked on a level surface. Due to the volume expansion of hot oil, in order to prevent inaccurate measurements, the vehicle cannot be inspected immediately after driving. It can only be carried out when the oil level is stable and the oil temperature is close to normal temperature.
4. Replenish lubricating oil
To prevent chemical reactions between different types of lubricating oil, it is essential to replenish the lubricating oil with the same model as the original when topping up.
5. Oil change cycle
When changing the lubricating oil in the transmission, the existing lubricating oil inside the transmission must be drained completely first.
The lubricating oil of a new transmission must be replaced when it has traveled 2000 to 5000 kilometers.
The oil level and leakage of lubricating oil should be checked every 10,000 kilometers and replenished at any time.
Lubricating oil should be changed every 30,000 kilometers.
6. Operating Temperature
The maximum temperature of the transmission during continuous operation must not exceed 120°C and the minimum temperature must not be lower than -40°C. If the operating temperature exceeds 120°C, the lubricating oil will decompose and shorten the service life of the transmission.
Any of the following conditions can cause the transmission’s operating temperature to exceed 120°C.
- Operating continuously at a driving speed of less than 32 km/h.
- High engine speed.
- High ambient temperature.
- Vortex Surrounding transmission.
- The exhaust system is too close to the transmission.
- High-power overspeed operation.
7. Working Tilt Angle
When the operating inclination angle of the transmission exceeds 15°, lubrication may be insufficient (the operating inclination angle is equal to the mounting angle of the transmission on the chassis plus the ramp angle).
8. Drag or slide
When the transmission is working, the shaft and gears of the transmission are constantly rotating, which can provide sufficient lubrication for the transmission. However, when the vehicle is towed with the rear wheels on the ground and the transmission system connected, the intermediate shaft gears and main shaft gears of the main box do not rotate, while the main shaft is driven by the rear wheels to rotate at high speed, which will cause serious damage to the transmission due to lack of lubrication.
To prevent such occurrences, the following points should be noted:
Never allow the vehicle to coast in neutral with the engine turned off.
Never depress the clutch pedal to allow the vehicle to coast in neutral.
When the vehicle needs to be towed, the half shaft can be pulled out or the transmission shaft can be disengaged, or the driving wheel can be towed off the ground, as shown in the figure

9. When the vehicle speed exceeds 25km/h, it is strictly prohibited to shift the transmission from the high gear area to the low gear area.
Matters needing attention
1. When shifting gears, the clutch must be fully disengaged, and the gear lever should be properly positioned in gear.
2. When the vehicle is in reverse gear, the vehicle should be stopped first and then the gear should be engaged to avoid damaging the internal parts of the transmission. When engaging reverse gear, a larger shift force is required to overcome the resistance of the reverse gear lock, and the shift force is also larger than that of the forward gear.
3. Shifting Operation Instructions: When shifting from 4th gear to 5th gear on the transmission, first press the clutch pedal, shift from 4th gear to neutral in the main gearbox, then move the lever switch valve to the H position, and consciously wait for a moment. The transmission’s auxiliary box will switch from the low gear range to the high gear range, and then press the clutch pedal to shift into 5th gear.
Conversely, when shifting from 5th gear to 4th gear on the transmission, first press the clutch pedal, then shift from 5th gear to neutral in the main gearbox. After that, move the lever switch valve to the L position and consciously wait for a moment. The transmission’s auxiliary box will switch from the high gear range to the low gear range, and then press the clutch pedal to shift into 4th gear.
When the transmission switches between 4th and 5th gears, do not skip gears, otherwise it will affect the service life of the auxiliary gearbox synchronizer.
It is forbidden to move or preselect the high-low gear shift lever valve when the main gearbox is engaged, as doing so may cause the auxiliary gearbox to disengage. In the event of an incorrect operation, first return the high-low gear shift lever valve to its original position, shift the main gearbox to neutral, wait consciously for a moment, and then re-shift the gears.
4. When the vehicle is going downhill, it is forbidden to change the high and low gear zones of the auxiliary gearbox.
5. Depending on the road conditions, start in 1st or 2nd gear.
6. Before starting the vehicle, you must wait until the air pressure rises to the starting pressure before releasing the parking brake and then shifting gears to start.
7. During use, if you find abnormal noises in the transmission, heavy operation, or other abnormal phenomena, you should immediately stop the vehicle for inspection and continue driving after the fault is eliminated.
8. This transmission is equipped with a master-slave interlocking mechanism. When the slave gearbox has not shifted into gear, the main gearbox shifting is locked. If you cannot engage a gear during shifting, it may be due to the interlocking of the master and slave gearboxes being activated. Please first check the range gear cylinder and its air lines to ensure that the slave gearbox is properly engaged.
9. The transmission within the “three guarantees” (warranty) period must not be disassembled or assembled without authorization.
